Rules of the Game

For regulation boards (24”x48”), the distance between the front of each board is 27 feet.

For 16”x32”, the distance between the front of each board is 18 feet.

Cornhole uses cancellation scoring, which means points players score cancel each other out. For example, if Player One scores five points and Player Two scores four points, Player One earns one point (5-4=1), and Player Two earns zero points. If players tie, no points are earned.

  • A bag on the board is worth one point. A bag in the hole is worth three points. The game continues until a player reaches or exceeds 21 points. It is not necessary to win by two points to win the game.

  • If a bag touches the ground at any point, it is dead (excluding bags that go in the hole).

  • Each player starts each round with four bags and opponents alternate throws. Player one throws, then player two throws, repeat until all bags are thrown. The winner of a round is the first to throw in the next round.

  • Feet must remain behind the front of the board when throwing.

  • Players must remain on their chosen side for the duration of the game, which means on one end of the court, a player is on the left side of the board, and on the opposite side, the board is on their right.
